Hymn of the Week – Now We Remain

  Posted on   by   No comments

This week’s hymn of the week is a newer hymn that first appeared in the Lutheran tradition in the ELW hymnal.  Composer David Haas was born in 1957 and has served in Catholic parish ministries in Michigan, Iowa and Minnesota.  He currently resides in Eagan, Minnesota where he is the director of the Emmaus Center for Music, Prayer and Ministry.  He is also the liturgical choir director at Cretin-Derham Hall High School in St. Paul, MN.  David Haas is the composer of some other great hymns that Spirit of Joy has sung in the past: “You Are Mine”, “We Are Called”, and “Blest Are They”.

“Now We Remain” was composed and published in 1983.  Pastor Jeff has chosen this hymn to go along with the text from Galatians chapter 2 that he will be preaching on this week.  In closing, I will leave you with the last line of verse four, “For to live with the Lord, we must die with the Lord”
