What does Radical Hospitality mean to Spirit of Joy?
Just as Jesus came into the world to offer grace and mercy to all persons no matter their path in life, we are committed to obeying Jesus’ New Commandment and to reaching out with the unconditional and everlasting love of Jesus to all people, just as they are, without regard to race, beliefs, gender, age, sexual identity, lifestyle or anything else.
BeFriender Ministry
BeFriender Ministry is for you and is an extension of pastoral ministry. There are ministry partners who have been trained (over 15 hours) to listen – really listen.
Emotions sometimes overpower our ability to sort things out, to understand how to deal with them. A BeFriender helps you diffuse that emotion in order to look at the circumstance in a new light. Whether it is after a move, children going to school, retirement, change of job, caregiving, an illness or after the death of a loved one, or something else, we will listen.
BeFrienders:
- Accept you as you are without telling you how you should be,
- Listen with compassion without giving advice,
- Allow you to make your own decisions without trying to decide for you,
- Provide an opportunity to make choices and grow.
- BeFrienders are committed to confidentiality.
We strive to provide a radical hospitality with warmth, openness, and authenticity that exceeds expectations, for example:
- Sponsoring events to welcome new members
- Encouraging neighborhood connections
- Creating a welcoming environment throughout the facility
- Organizing special events to promote fellowship
- Providing a listening ear with our trained BeFrienders
