Why is the church community important to you?

The church community has been where I’ve most concretely met Jesus, which is why the Bible calls the church the Body of Christ. The church has been where I’ve received grace upon grace, been encouraged to use my gifts and talents, been reminded that my life is about more than me, and shown a hopeful future.

What is your favorite movie and why?

I love Field of Dreams. It’s all about baseball, history, a mystical encounter with SomeOne out there, following your passion, taking crazy risks, and the redemption of broken family ties; what more could you want?

If you could sit down and have dinner with anyone in the world, who would it be?

It would be fascinating to sit at a table for four with Pope Francis, the Dalai Lama, and Desmond Tutu. I would love to listen to their perspectives on so many things.

What’s the silliest thing you’ve ever done?

Jumping off a 25-foot high cliff into a small pool of water just off the Road to Hana in Hawaii.

What is the best part about working for Jesus and his people?

It is the privilege of coming alongside people to share a Word of thanksgiving, or comfort, or grace, or hope, in the middle of some of the most significant joys and sorrows a person experiences in his or her lifetime.
