What does Extravagant Generosity mean to Spirit of Joy?

The Bible repeatedly reminds us of God’s great generosity towards us. The Book of Genesis tells us that God chose a man named Abraham to become the father of God’s chosen people and blessed him so that the whole world might be blessed through him. We believe this old story comes into clear focus in the person of Jesus Christ who “though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich” (2 Cor 8:9).

Since Jesus, by his death and resurrection, has made us rich in grace, rich in mercy, and rich in love, we respond with our own extravagant generosity. We generously share of the talents and time God has given us to participate in God’s mission, and we generously share of the treasure we earn with our time and talents to fund the ministry of Spirit of Joy.

The opportunities to assist with tending our ministry resources include:

  • Light maintenance and repair of our building and equipment
  • Joining our woodworkers in construction of faith chests and service projects
  • Making sure technology used in worship and administration functions properly
  • Work with our gardeners to tend our prayer gardens and landscaping
  • Assist with preparation of our community gardens for another growing season
  • Serve as an offering counter
  • Participate in our annual financial stewardship emphasis
  • Serve on our creation care team

Develops and maintains systems, practices and procedures that provide for the care, growth, management, and use of the many material ministry resources of Spirit of Joy. We oversee our congregation’s

  • Technology and Communications

Spirit of Joy’s extravagant generosity makes it possible for our congregation to carry out all of the ministries highlighted in this mission booklet. Extravagant gifts of income enable us to call and support talented leaders, pay for all the materials we use in our faith formation activities, provide a beautiful and comfortable space for worship and learning, and support our neighbors in Sioux Falls and around the world with our talents and offerings.
