Story of the Week: New Interim Ministry Leader Christy Hallenbeck Ask

  Posted on   by   No comments

My name is Christy Hallenbeck Ask, and I’m delighted to be the new Interim Ministry Leader at SOJ. I was born and raised in central Sioux Falls but spent the past 10 years living in the Twin Cities, Arizona, and Montana. My husband Jon and I are both graduates of Augustana University and Luther Seminary. Our one-year-old Australian Shepherd-Border Collie, Beckman, is (barely) a graduate of basic obedience training. This fall Jon and I are awaiting our first call placements, and I will be a proud member of the SOJ staff as we wait.

I most recently worked as a barista in downtown Bozeman, MT, where Jon completed his pastoral internship. During my barista tenure I twice served Michael Keaton. Following our year of mountain adventures in Montana, Jon and I walked 530 miles along El Camino de Santiago in northern Spain. Fellow Camino pilgrims from Denmark and South Korea were excessively impressed by my stories of meeting Batman.

While much of Sioux Falls is familiar landscape to me, the southwest side is altogether new; I look forward to meeting this area of town through your eyes and your stories. Thank you for sharing in ministry at SOJ!
